Description
Most of us think of fire as a bad thing. It destroys things. Foresters around the world disagree. Fire is essential for the well being of our forests and prairies. The flames take out dead wood and vegetation clearing the way for new growth. In Florida the spring is a time for wildfires. Afternoon thunder storms spark blazes and hundreds of acres go up in smoke. Within weeks the afternoon rains have returned green to the charred landscape. These are dead snags left after a fire swept through Deer Pairie Creek Preserve in south Sarasota County.
