Historic Ybor City is a district in Tampa, Florida. This is “La Joven Francesca Bakery”. Originally from Sicily Francisco Ferlita opened a bakery at this location in 1896. Back then bread went for three or five cents. If you did not have the cash Francisco was willing to offer you credit. That bakery, a wood structure, burned down in 1922. A new brick building was then built utilizing the surviving brick ovens. Francisco’s sons operated the bakery after his death in 1931. At its peak the bakery produced 35,000 loaves a week. Production cane to an end in 1973.
In case you are wondering, the "1818" is the street address.
My true passion is photography. Since I am not good at drawing or painting photography really lets my creative side loose. Originally from Rochester, New York, I've called Florida home for almost 40 years. Other interests include hiking, traveling and especially cruising. These activities are always finding me new things to photograph. My photographic philosophy is to show people things they pass everyday but never notice. I look forward to your feedback as I am still growing as a photographer and will never be done learning.
