Description
Originally a tender ship for oil rigs, the Mega One Triton was purchased by a retired captain who used it to deliver building supplies to the islands of the Turks and Caicos. After some 20 years of service the freighter was again sold around 2010. It was anchored off the coast of Grand Turk until 2012 when Hurricane Sandy washed it onto shore at Governor’s Beach where it still sits today. Several companies have made plans to remove the derelict, but none have come to fruition.
The beach is about a mile from the cruise port of Grand Turk, an easy hike for the adventurous or tours can be scheduled.
