Artist's Description

Opened in 1903 Sunken Gardens is one of Florida's oldest roadside attractions. The four acre park in St Petersburg stated out as private nursery grown in a drained lake. Over the years the botanical gardens grew as exotic trees and plants were added as well as small animals.

As with many of Florida's old attractions, the park fell on hard times as tourists' interests turned to a mouse in Orlando. For a time it looked like this little piece of paradise would be lost to history. The taxpayers of St Petersburg interceded and the park is now operated by the city. The gardens still thrive.

About Robert Wilder Jr

Robert Wilder Jr

My true passion is photography. Since I am not good at drawing or painting photography really lets my creative side loose. Originally from Rochester, New York, I've called Florida home for almost 40 years. Other interests include hiking, traveling and especially cruising. These activities are always finding me new things to photograph. My photographic philosophy is to show people things they pass everyday but never notice. I look forward to your feedback as I am still growing as a photographer and will never be done learning.
