Description
Florida is almost completely surrounded by water. Just the norther edges are land locked. To make up for this the interior of the state is filled with lakes, ponds and rivers. In fact half the sate was once covered with a slow moving river river. Construction of canals and dams dried much of this river and today the Everglades are relegated to the southern points of the state. Still, areas reminiscent of Old Florida exist.
This is a shot taken in Myakka River State Park outside Sarasota. The park is home to thousands of alligators and offers miles of hiking trails that wind through pine flats, praries and along the river. It is truly a piece of Old Florida.
