Description
Eastern lubber grasshoppers (Romalea microptera) are found throughout Florida. Their size and bright color make them easy to spot. They can gather in large enough numbers to cause some serious damage to crops and ornamental vegetation.
While they can strip the soft materials from plants they will often just eat a small area and move on to a new plant. That seems to be what this hopper was doing as he had left several chewed areas on the palm fronds.
