The island of Egmont Key sits at the mouth of Tampa Bay on Florida's west coast. The small island is home to a state park and national wildlife preserve. It has been home to forts, a movie theater and a lighthouse over the years. Today the fort is in ruins, parts of it washed into the bay by erosion. The other buildings are, for the most part, gone completely. While some of the walkways exist, the "ghost town" as it is called is just that, a mere memory of what once was. The lighthouse still stands, though it is not open to the public. Alongside the structure are some buildings used by the ranger living on the island, No facilities are available to visitors and the island is only accessible by boat. A ferry runs a couple times a day from Fort DeSoto Park if you are interested in visiting.
My true passion is photography. Since I am not good at drawing or painting photography really lets my creative side loose. Originally from Rochester, New York, I've called Florida home for almost 40 years. Other interests include hiking, traveling and especially cruising. These activities are always finding me new things to photograph. My photographic philosophy is to show people things they pass everyday but never notice. I look forward to your feedback as I am still growing as a photographer and will never be done learning.
