Description
Upper Lake in Myakka River State park is a main attraction in the park. The park offers air boat tours of the lake to view the wildlife and scenery. Many forgo that to explore the lake via canoes and kayaks. Here a group of canoes gather. While the water is shallow, often less than a few feet deep, there are dangers present in the form of American alligators. Not that the creatures are really a big threat. They are usually docile during the day. It is the reaction and fear of the visitors that can lead to problems including capsizing. Gator attacks on canoes are extremely rare.
